Alberto Giacometti (1901–1966) was a Swiss sculptor and painter known for his elongated, skeletal figures. Influenced by Surrealism and later Existentialism, his work explores themes of isolation and the human condition. Born in Borgonovo, Switzerland, he studied in Geneva and later in Paris under Antoine Bourdelle. During World War II, he returned to Switzerland, but postwar, he became famous for his haunting, thin sculptures, embodying postwar anxiety. His notable works include L’Homme qui marche and Grande Femme. Giacometti’s art, blending abstraction and figuration, remains highly influential.
