BAUHAUS UMBRELLA STAND

Bauhaus umbrella stand inspired by a modernist design from Henry van de Velde. Brass frame. Combination of polished and satin brass finishings. A similar umbrella stand has especially been displayed in 2017 at the exhibition ‘’Esprit du Bauhaus’’ in Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris.

Created in Germany in 1919, Bauhaus is the most influential modernist art and design school of the 20th century. His concept came directly from ideas initiated by the Arts & Crafts movement. In short, art had also to respond to the needs of society. The traditional distinction between the fine arts and craftsmanship was likewise obsolete. Bauhaus included artists  Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee, architects Walter Gropius and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and designers Marcel Breuer, Koloman Moser and Josef Hoffmann. The nazis closed the school in 1932.
