Jean Dunand‘s lacquer work has always been a powerful source of inspiration for us. One of the most celebrated figures of the Art Deco period, Dunand mastered the ancient lacquer techniques of Asia and combined them with bold geometric patterns, crackle surfaces, and precious inlays of eggshell and gold. He collaborated with Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann and designed interiors for legendary ocean liners such as the Normandie. Above all, his mastery of material contrasts and surface depth directly informs how we approach finish and ornament at Vosges.
