19TH CENTURY FRENCH PLANTER ENAMELED IRON
19th Century French Planter Enameled Iron Garden Vase. Crafted in enameled cast iron, showcases intricate details with florets and lambrequins. The planter features two lion muzzles as handles and rests gracefully on four claw-shaped feet. Available in various dimensions, iron finishes, and colors. This planter exemplifies the refined craftsmanship of 19th-century French design, merging functionality with ornamental appeal.
Though produced near Paris by Charles Émile Paris, this sophisticated and decorative style is often referred to as “Rouen style” due to its resemblance in both color and form to Rouen enameled pottery.
Charles Émile Paris, an engineer from the Arts et Manufactures and a member of a prominent industrial family known for their innovations in glassmaking and enameling, founded the Cristallerie-Émaillerie Saint-Joseph in Le Bourget. He established an apprentice orphanage in 1868 and opened a sales store on Rue de Paradis in Paris’s 10th arrondissement in 1876. However, the factory ceased operations in 1930 due to a lack of modernization, and the company liquidated in 1935.
