Gilbert Poillerat (1902-1988) was one of the most renowned French designer and wrought iron master of the 20th Century.
Poillerat gained prominence in the 1930s, creating decorative ironwork for furniture, gates, stair railings, and architectural elements. His collaborations with architects and designers, such as Jacques Adnet, solidified his reputation. He also designed pieces for luxury interiors, including those of French ocean liners and prestigious homes.
Poillerat used Nature and Mythology inspired elements such as branches, corals, leaves… He furthermore embellished his furniture with delicate gilded metal pieces (twisted ropes, stars, bows and arrows, globes astrolabs…) During the post-war period, Poillerat’s work evolved towards more modern and minimal aesthetics while maintaining the refinement of his earlier designs. Today, his creations remain highly sought after, reflecting the timeless appeal of his craftsmanship and artistic vision.
