Louis Cresson (1706–1761) was a renowned French menuisier en sièges (chair maker) in Paris, active during the Régence and Louis XV periods. Working from the rue de Cléry, he produced finely carved chairs, armchairs, and fauteuils in beech and walnut, later gilded or upholstered in rich fabrics. Cresson’s work exemplified the transition from Baroque heaviness to Rococo elegance, with fluid curves, cabriole legs, and shell or floral ornamentation. He was part of the celebrated Cresson family of chair makers, which supplied Parisian aristocracy with fashionable seating. His stamped creations remain important examples of 18th-century French craftsmanship and design innovation.
