FRANK CONSOLE TABLE GILT SHAGREEN

A design of Jean-Michel Frank inspired us to recreate this great waterfall-shaped table. Our team has fabricated the frame in curved Plywood. Vosges has further covered it with shagreen which has been gilt with gold leaves. We also finished this console with hand patina and final protective varnish.

Born in 1895, Jean-Michel Frank was a French Art Deco interior designer. He decorated minimalist interiors with plain-lined but sumptuous furniture made of luxury materials, such as shagreenmica, and intricate straw marquetry. Frank created a unique collection of home furnishing for Hermès in the 1920s. Leading designers recognize today Frank as one of the greatest sources of inspiration to many present-day designs. Great Art Deco designers and architects such as Jean-Michel Frank inspired some among our models.

Shagreen is the untanned skin from shark or stingray. It displays an unusually rough and granular surface. Skilled craftsmen use shagreen to cover items such as luxury luggage, toilet cases, rare books as well as larger pieces of furniture.
