Rococo style originated in Paris in the early 18th century. It was soon adopted throughout France and later in European countries. In Italy the Rococo style was concentrated primarily in Venice. The grace and charm of Rococo furnishing succeeded the heavy and imposing Baroque style. The characteristics are lightness, elegance, and also an exuberant use of curving and natural forms in ornamentation.
